“North Carolina Legislature Reapproves Abortion Ban, Overriding Governor’s Veto” - The New York Times
They know that the majority of North Carolinians support reproductive rights.
They don’t care.
John, Republican legislators in North Carolina pushed through their abortion ban without time for amendments or public comment BECAUSE they know that this legislation isn’t the people’s will.
And it won’t just hurt women in North Carolina. After Roe fell, the state became a haven for reproductive health care in the South. It saw one of the highest increases in patients traveling from out of state for care.
John, here’s the most outrageous part: The NC GOP was only able to push this ban through because a Democratic rep who SWORE to defend abortion rights switched parties and voted for the ban. (Tricia Cotham, if you’re reading this, f*ck you.)

ATTN: North Carolina Legislative Republicans As you well know, abortion bans like the one you’ve enacted cause great harm to patients. We’ve seen it over and over in state after state. Women left bleeding for days because doctors are too scared to provide life- and health-saving care. Women having to scrape pennies to travel out of state for care that they should be able to receive at home. Your goal was never to “protect life.” It is to control our bodies. You should know: We won’t go back. We’ll fight back. I’m signing this letter to voice my ongoing commitment to opposing any rollback of our human right to reproductive freedom. |
