Nine days after yet another mass shooting claimed the lives of nine people in Texas, my colleague in Congress, Rep. Lauren Boebert, introduced a bill to repeal bipartisan gun control measures.

John, I'm completely outraged by this effort.

Time and time again, elected Republicans show that they don’t care about stopping the epidemic of gun violence in America. We’re on pace for a record number of mass shootings in 2023, and now Rep. Boebert (and the 16 other GOP lawmakers who co-sponsored the bill) want to make it easier to access guns.

This is completely backward, and it’s a slap in the face to all those who have lost loved ones to gun violence. Please sign my petition right now telling Lauren Boebert that we won’t stand for this attempt to walk back our legislation preventing gun violence.

I was one of the main legislators behind the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act signed into law by President Biden last June. It enhanced background checks, incentivized states to pass red flag laws, and made trafficking firearms a federal offense. This legislation was some of the most significant progress toward stopping gun violence in decades.

If repealed, we would be set back enormously in the fight to keep our communities safe from gun violence. More mass shootings will occur, and more families will deal with the devastation that follows a loved one being shot.

My family was forever changed by an act of gun violence, and I’ve made it my life’s work to prevent others from going through what I did. I promise to fight this bill from Rep. Boebert with everything in my power as a Congresswoman.
