Let me explain why your message to the president is so incredibly important right now.
The current inflation has created real pocketbook hardships for millions of Americans as they have had to go without essentials to pay higher prices. The highest in a generation inflation and rising interest rates have also shrunk the savings of retirees and cost us all economic growth and opportunity. This inflationary misery has, in large measure, been a product of Washington's endless runaway spending.
As a result of all the excessive spending, our nation’s debt ceiling, which is roughly equivalent to what you could think of as our nation’s credit limit, is days away from being maxed out.
In the face of this grim economic future, President Biden has shockingly adopted the approach of “my way or the highway.” He refused to come to the table in good faith.
What is ironic is that it was Vice President Biden who scolded Congress in 2010 that “it’s in everyone’s interest politically to cooperate” on raising the debt limit and “taking an absolutist position: my way or no way. That’s not governing. That’s no way to govern.”
Today, he is the “my way or no way - absolutist” who is failing his own test of governing.
Even though the reckless spending has deeply hurt Americans, he is demanding the the debt limit increase without spending reforms.
His demand is far from the mainstream. Gallup polling shows that 78% of Americans worry a great deal or a fair amount “about federal spending and the budget deficit.”
But the White House is not getting the message that Americans demand real reform.
That is why, I urge you to send this urgent message to President Biden.
