John —
Last night was another big election night in Pennsylvania — and from Philly to Pittsburgh, Working Families Democrats ran incredible and inspirational campaigns.
In Allegheny County, WFP members helped power primary wins for candidates including progressive champion Sara Innamorato for County Executive and Matt Dugan for County District Attorney! These results were a huge win for clean air and water and a fair justice system, and a victory for all of us who want a government that works for everyone, not just the powerful and politically connected.
In Philadelphia, WFP champion Helen Gym unfortunately came up short in her grassroots campaign for mayor. No other candidate had to weather the scale of negative attack ads Helen did — including from Republican megadonor Jeffrey Yass who made it his personal project to stop Helen from becoming mayor, pouring over a million dollars into dishonest smears.
Last night, Helen told supporters that her campaign “was always about more than an election.” We couldn’t agree more. We are so proud of the campaign Helen and her team ran, and know that the future of Philadelphia is brighter for it.
The work that we're engaged in together at the Working Families Party is about more than an election — it’s about building a multiracial movement to make our nation work for the many.
And that work doesn’t let up:
In Pennsylvania, we’ve got to immediately pivot to our general election campaign — re-electing the people’s councilwoman, Kendra Brooks, to her minority party seat in Philly’s City Council, ensuring that pastor and organizer Nicolas O’Rourke joins her, supporting union organizer Jarrett Smith’s bid for the minority party seat on Philly’s City Commission, and powering our primary winners across the state to victory in November.
And everywhere else, we’ve got to double down on recruiting and training the candidates who can take back the House in 2024, and building towards working families majorities not just in Congress but in state legislatures, counties, cities, and towns.
If you’re with us in this fight, let us know by making a contribution of $10
today to the Working Families Party. Your grassroots donations help make sure working people have the support they need to win — and add up to something bigger than any one election.
