John,

Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced new rules for “regulating greenhouse gas emissions” from power plants.

But, rather than regulating greenhouse gasses, the rules actually incentivize costly, ineffective, and polluting carbon capture at power plants.

Carbon capture technologies aim to get rid of carbon dioxide at the source, or even remove it from the atmosphere, but they are in fact really bad for the climate. That’s because they have to burn additional fuel to power carbon capture equipment.

The truth is, carbon capture is costly, has a track record of failure, and will only extend our reliance on fossil fuels. Simply put, carbon capture will not fix the climate crisis.

We must do better.

Send a message to President Biden and the EPA demanding they reject carbon capture!

Instead, we need to cut fossil fuels off at their source and transition to clean, renewable energy now.

TAKE ACTION!

Renewable energy is reliable, cost-effective, ready for widespread deployment, and could provide 100% of our electricity needs — all we need is the political will to make it happen.

It’s no wonder fossil fuel corporations have been lobbying for carbon capture for years. Fossil fuel corporations use most captured carbon dioxide to produce more oil. Our greenhouse emissions get worse, and oil and gas companies still are let off the hook for destroying our climate, all while pretending they are doing something to address the climate crisis.

Instead of bailouts or gimmicky technology that doesn’t deliver, we must rapidly wind down fossil fuels and build out renewable energy.

That’s the only way to ensure a stable pathway and a just transition to real clean energy. It’s time for all of us to raise our voices!

Tell Biden and the EPA: The only real solution to the climate crisis is to stop using fossil fuels.
