** Celebrating Labor Spring 2023
------------------------------------------------------------
This month, in celebration of workers and worker organizing efforts happening in Wisconsin and across the country, we have exciting updates to share on Labor Spring ([link removed]) activities supported by COWS and our partners.

On April 22, in collaboration with the Havens Wright Center for Social Justice ([link removed]) , Worker Justice Wisconsin ([link removed]) , Kids Forward ([link removed]) , Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Organization ([link removed]) (MASH), University Labor Council ([link removed]) , UW-Madison School for Workers ([link removed]) , and The Crossing Campus Ministry ([link removed]) , COWS hosted a panel and workshop on worker organizing on campus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Read more about the event in today’s feature ([link removed]) .

Labor Spring is also a great opportunity to look back at the State of Working Wisconsin 2022 ([link removed]) , which in addition to data on Wisconsin’s economy, jobs, and wages includes features on Unions ([link removed]) and Wisconsin Workers Organizing ([link removed]) .

On May 4, Worker Justice Wisconsin ([link removed]) (WJW) hosted their annual Faith Labor Breakfast ([link removed]) , attended by local leaders from faith communities, grassroots organizations, and local government. At the event, we heard first-hand from WJW members and organizers about their recent victories, current projects, and future goals. We are grateful for our strong partnership with WJW and look forward to future collaborations.

** ICYMI: Laura Joins ‘A Public Affair’
------------------------------------------------------------

At 2.5 percent, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate in March was its lowest on record. (See the data on our Monthly Job Data ([link removed]) page on WorkingWI.org ([link removed]) .) When labor markets are tight, workers have room to demand more of work, and wage gains in the lowest wage jobs suggest that workers continue to use this leverage to improve their jobs.

COWS Associate Director Laura Dresser got a chance to talk about the dynamics in tight labor markets on WORT 89.9 FM Radio’s A Public Affair. Check out the interview ([link removed]) .
