Today we observe the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, Johh.
This day is a time to draw attention to the incredible resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community, call out discrimination, and work together to create a more just society.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to live their truth loudly and proudly. Nobody should lose their home, be evicted from their workplace, be bullied in school, or even face death because of who they are and who they love.
Yet every day, members of the LGBTQIA+ community face these devastating instances of discrimination — often sanctioned by a government that should be protecting them. In just 2023, over 543 anti-trans bills have been introduced across the country, with 70 passing into law.
Among the many cases of blatant attacks by the GOP, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida signed his "Don't Say Gay" bill into law, Ohio extremists are working to pass a bill that would force educators to out LGBTQIA+ students, and in Texas, state legislators have proposed making gender-affirming care for trans youth a felony.
Our country cannot continue to condone the harmful culture of discrimination — I am proud to continue fighting for an America where justice for all MEANS justice for ALL.
Today, will you join me in recommitting to the fight to protect LGBTQIA+ rights and sign the pledge against homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia?
Thank you,
Diana
