Friend,
Migrants approaching the southern U.S. border, seeking asylum from
violence and terrible conditions, are facing thousands of military troops
rather than refuge.(1)
The Biden administration has added 1,500 troops to the 2,500 already there
in response to the expiration of Title 42 -- a hateful Trump-era policy
allowing the U.S. to immediately expel asylum-seekers instead of giving
them a fair hearing.(2)
A wave of troops descending on the border is a racist response to a
humanitarian situation. We have joined a coalition of organizations
demanding that the Biden administration make good on its promise for a
welcoming and inclusive immigration policy and withdraw the troops.

Military intervention has never been the correct response to immigration.
U.S. policies have driven much of the migrant displacement happening in
the first place -- whether it’s crushing sanctions on Venezuela, armed
intervention in Haiti, or the flow of weapons into El Salvador and
Guatemala.
We have a responsibility that dates back to the founding of our country to
welcome the suffering with open arms -- not armed soldiers.
Courage California mobilized people to airports to protest Trump’s
original Muslim ban, and we rallied thousands of people to stop the
administration from putting kids in cages. We aren’t going to let this
racist policy stand.
There are many solutions to the influx of migrants seeking asylum, and
none of them include the military.
