Team,
Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia.
It's no secret that in recent years and months, we have seen extreme politicians amplify their attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.
While we've made incredible progress since I first began my first term in the House, many of our LGBTQ+ community members still don’t have the same legal protections guaranteed to others.
This year state legislatures across the country – including here in New Hampshire – have introduced a record number of at least 417 anti-LGBTQ+ bills that seriously threaten millions of Americans. In Congress Republicans passed the so-called Parents Bill of Rights Act which would jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth.
Here's the bottom line, team: Granite Staters believe in local control of education and understand that education and support for our children must remain free from politics.
Just this week I was proud to see a bipartisan majority of the New Hampshire House defeat anti-trans legislation and instead trust parents, students, and educators to help shape policy surrounding LGBTQ+ issues at the local level, not extremist legislators.
As Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and New Hampshire’s first openly gay member of Congress, I will always work to make sure LGBTQ+ individuals receive the support they need to live freely and safely.
So on this International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, will you join me in recommitting to protecting our LGBTQ+ community members and fight for the legal protections that they deserve? >> [link removed]
