Last night, voters in Jacksonville delivered a resounding victory for Democrats, electing Donna Deegan, the first woman mayor of Florida's largest city. This historic election shows that when we come together to fight for what our citizens deserve, we can win in Florida.
Ruth's List is also celebrating the election of our endorsed candidate, outgoing member of the Jacksonville City Council Joyce Morgan, to the countywide office of Property Appraiser — the first woman and African American ever elected to this office.
These wins give me great hope for the future of Florida. In yesterday's election, Republican voters outnumbered Democrats by about 3.5% — meaning that Donna won independents and crossover Republican voters. Voters are clear, DeSantis and the Republican Party have gone too far, forcing their extremist, authoritarian agenda down our throats, and it's past time we stop them in their tracks.
These few next months will be crucial as we ramp up our efforts to recruit and train Democratic, pro-choice women across the state. That's why today, we're asking for your help.
