John,
The Chinese government is collecting DNA samples from hundreds of thousands of Tibetans, including children as young as five, and a little known American company is helping them!
A shocking report has detailed how Thermo Fisher is secretly supplying hundreds of thousands dollars worth of DNA kits to the government of China and Tibetan authorities - even though they have a track record of appalling human rights abuses in Tibet.
This isn’t the first time Thermo Fisher has been caught red-handed. The company was already forced to ditch a contract supplying DNA equipment to police in the Uyghur region - where over a million Uyghurs are locked up in prison camps or working in forced labor programs.
If we create a massive public outcry about Thermo Fisher’s complicity in repressing Tibetan freedoms, we can shame them into dropping this deal too.

Experts are sounding the alarm over this new drive to collect Tibetans’ DNA because of fears it will make it even easier for authorities to continue their campaign of torture and repression.
And US companies are already under serious pressure to show that their business dealings are not aiding human rights abuses by the government of China. Just over a year ago, US Congress passed strong laws preventing imports made by forced labor from the Uyghur region.
If we put Thermo Fisher under the spotlight for profiting from the surveillance and tracking of Tibetans, we can force the company to drop this dodgy deal.
Our community has already taken on some of the world’s most powerful companies, like Apple and Google, over their profiting from human rights abuses.
Thanks to Ekō members, Google ditched its spy program, Dragonfly, and Apple agreed to be more transparent about requests from the government of China to remove apps from Apple’s Chinese App Store. If we can force Apple and Google to change course, we can stop Thermo Fisher supplying DNA kits to the Chinese government.
