**Oswego Village Board Trustee Luis Perez resigns**

**Village President opens applications for replacement**

The Village of Oswego announced at the May 16 Board Meeting that newly elected Trustee Luis Perez has resigned his position, effective immediately, to pursue an out-of-state job opportunity.

?On behalf of the Village Board, I?d like to thank Luis for his service to the community during his brief time as a village trustee,? Village President Ryan Kauffman said.

Under state statute, Village President Ryan Kauffman must appoint a replacement, with the advice and consent of the Village Board.

The appointed trustee will serve until the 2025 Consolidated Election at which time a candidate will be elected to serve the remaining two years of Perez?s term. Perez was elected to the Village Board in April 2023 and his term expires in April 2027. He previously served on the Board from 2015 to 2021. All Village of Oswego elected officials serve four-year terms on a staggered cycle, with a municipal election (Consolidated Election) held the first Tuesday in April of years ending with an odd number.

The Village operates under the Trustee-Village form of government, in which an elected Village Board president and six trustees set policy and appoint a professional administrator to oversee the day-to day operations of government services and programs.

Kauffman will start taking applications for the vacant trustee seat immediately. The?application?is available on the Village?s website [ [link removed] ] and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 30. Kauffman will announce his appointment on June 8, and it will appear on the June 13 Board Meeting agenda for board approval.
