Dear Friend,
The U.S. has the most maternal deaths of any high-income country and the
problem is worsening, yet over 80% of these deaths are preventable.[1,2]
Black and Indigenous women are by far at greatest risk.[ [link removed] ] This is
unacceptable.
[ [link removed] ]Urge lawmakers to pass the recently reintroduced Black Maternal Health
Momnibus, the only comprehensive legislation to address the maternal
health crisis.
For Black women, pregnancy can be a traumatic and life-threatening
experience, full of fear and uncertainty. Every birthing person should be
able to go home with their child to see them grow and thrive. But the
truth is, our maternal health crisis has taken thousands of lives and
devastated far too many families. This is why we need Congress to pass the
reintroduced Momnibus Act.
The [ [link removed] ]Momnibus Act will:
* provide more funds to strengthen federal maternal health programs,
* address social determinants of health,
* support diversification of the perinatal health workforce,
* provide grants to improve maternal mental health,
* support anti-bias trainings for healthcare professionals, and more.
This comprehensive package of bills focuses on the most impacted moms and
tackles the problem from every angle. This is exactly what is needed to
address the maternal health crisis and provide moms with the right to
equitable care before, during, and after childbirth.
[3]Demand that Congress pass the Momnibus Act so that moms get the support
they need to survive the perinatal period.
We must do better. Mothers and families are the backbone of our
communities, our economy, and our nation. Our laws should reflect that.
Together we can, and must, do better for our communities.
