In one of the richest countries in the world, our children should never go hungry.

That’s why I just joined my Senate colleagues in introducing the Universal School Meals Program Act — which would give free meals to all students, regardless of income.

New Mexico's universal school meals program became law earlier this year, and I am committed to making it a reality nationwide with the Universal School Meals Program Act.

Hunger can make it difficult for students to do what they go to school for: learn. So it’s no surprise that research shows that kids who have more access to food can see improved academic performance.

I’m proud that New Mexico was the fifth state to approve a universal school meals program. This program will soon change the lives of hundreds of thousands of kids and their families. But we need to take the next step and act to give every child free meals no matter where they live.

We need to ensure that no child goes hungry and all children are set up for success. If you agree, please sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the Universal School Meals Program Act:
