John, we FINALLY have results from the Iowa caucuses and it's FINALLY official. Pete is the first openly LGBTQ person to WIN the Iowa caucuses and is on-track to become the first openly gay president in U.S. history.
The enormity of this moment cannot be overstated. Iowa has long been seen as a spring board for candidates to launch into the national spotlight and claim the presidency. This win confirms Pete is a candidate to be reckoned with and squashed any lingering questions around his electability. No longer can pundits, opponents and political parties dismiss LGBTQ candidates because of who they are.
During a speech in New Hampshire, Pete himself choked up when explaining what this victory means for LGBTQ youth and LGBTQ progress. Just consider that only five years ago, marriage equality became the law of the land. Now, a proudly open LGBTQ candidate can kiss his husband during his announcement speech, tell his coming out story from the debate stage AND take first place in Iowa.
We've come a long way - but there's still so far to go. New Hampshire is less than a week away. Super Tuesday not long after that. Pete's victory is an enormous step forward, and we must keep going. Chip in today so we can keep up the momentum. [[link removed]]
Let's keep making history.

LGBTQ Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win elections up and down the ballot, from sea to shining sea since our founding in 1991. We believe representation is power – so we elected U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, Governors Jared Polis and Kate Brown, all seven LGBTQ members of U.S. Congress and countless candidates for state and local government, including Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod and Pennsylvania Assemblymember Brian Sims. And with an unprecedented number of LGBTQ people running for office in this year, we’ll need your support to make 2020 the next Rainbow Wave. This email was sent to [email protected].
