Here’s what’s inside Learning for Justice Magazine’s latest issue: Friend, The newest edition of Learning for Justice magazine is here! Learning for Justice is a project of the SPLC that provides free educational resources to educators, young people and caregivers. Educators are tasked with preparing students to live in an increasingly diverse society. Learning for Justice provides anti-bias materials to help teach the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in diverse settings, achieve academically, work collaboratively and stand up against injustice. Here’s what’s inside Learning for Justice magazine’s latest issue: “The Power of Place,” a perspective piece from Learning for Justice Director Jalaya Liles Dunn. For the greater good of our democracy and nation, we must center the power and autonomy of people in the South engaged in the narrative of liberation. “Teaching Hard History: American slavery” A comprehensive framework and resources for teaching this critical topic at all grade levels, helping students understand how slavery influences us in the present day. A free online course from Learning for Justice, Harvard University and MIT: “Help young people realize their power and support student activism” Youth have always been at the forefront of movements for justice in the United States. In our first self-paced professional development course, you’ll learn the history of student-led activism and receive tools and actionable strategies for supporting student activism. “A Chorus of Reasons Why We Teach,” by Wilkins Elementary School teachers and staff In addition to ongoing water issues that make the school’s water dangerous to drink, we’ve used portable restrooms outside of our building where teachers have had to fight off stray dogs to keep students safe. Under these conditions, why would teachers teach? Here are some of our reasons. These resources and so many more are available for free on the Learning for Justice website. We encourage you to share and engage with these materials with educators, young people and caregivers in your community. Together, we will harness our collective power and take action to create justice for all. In solidarity, Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
