Friend,

There’s a cherished tenet in American democracy that I have cited time and time again: No one – no matter how powerful – is above the law.

Donald Trump’s ethical corruption of the executive branch was bad enough. Now, right-wing Supreme Court justices are undermining the trust and credibility of our nation’s highest court, as well.

As an offender, Justice Clarence Thomas is in a category all his own. Not only did Justice Thomas refuse to recuse himself from cases regarding the Jan. 6 hearings – despite his wife, Ginni’s reported plotting to keep Trump in office – now we’ve learned that Thomas has accepted luxury gifts, travel, home purchases, and private school tuition from a notoriously right-wing Texas billionaire.

Chief Justice Roberts has declined every last request from Congress to hold Justice Thomas accountable – even refusing to implement a code of ethics for justices similar to those maintained by other public servants. This dereliction will be a stain on the chief justice’s personal legacy.

In the absence of action from the Court, Congress must act. That’s why I’m calling for an investigation into Justice Clarence Thomas and Supreme Court corruption – with subpoenas and impeachment being very much on the table. I’ve created a new petition to demand just that, and I’m counting on you to add your name now, friend:

The American public’s trust in the Supreme Court has plummeted to historic and troubling lows. It’s no exaggeration to say that we have reached a crisis of confidence with our third branch of government. We cannot sit idly by. Thank you for doing your part by taking action.

Dick
