
Moments ago, the Texas Senate failed the working people of our state and passed HB 2127.
HB 2127 prohibits our local officials, people we democratically elected to serve our communities, from taking action against tenant abuses, predatory payday lending schemes, climate change, and so much more. It will roll back decades of worker protections, and block new pro-worker ordinances from being passed at the local level. With this bill passing, they have shamelessly displayed the lengths they are willing to go to strip us of our hard-fought rights.
Rick Levy, President of the Texas AFL-CIO released the following statement yesterday:
“With HB 2127 on the brink of becoming law, workers wanting to regain their local freedom to make decisions will be left with two solutions: One, ORGANIZE, and gain the best protection there is - a collective bargaining agreement; and two, VOTE like your life depends on it - because it does.”
