John,
We’re already halfway through the month — so before it gets away from us, I want to share a bit about the significance of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, celebrated every year in May.
This month serves as a reminder and celebration of the rich cultural heritage and countless contributions made by AAPI members throughout history.
We are proud to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month as we promote the values we hold dear — the empowerment of marginalized communities, the rejection of stereotypes, and the importance of raising awareness about the history, experiences and challenges faced by the AAPI community.
I’m reminded of why I’m proud to be part of this team, because Lauren has always represented folks from every background, listened to their unique concerns and addressed their needs in Congress.
That includes the AAPI community, of which I am a proud member. For generations, the contributions of AAPI individuals across the country have made significant progress in areas of technology, science, the arts, business, sports, philanthropy and so much more.
From Vice President Kamala Harris becoming the first South Asian American to be elected vice president, not to mention the first woman and Black American, to AAPI voters turning out in record numbers shaping elections down the ballot and growing our political power in the last several elections, we continue to make lasting impacts on society.
However, AAPIs have faced, and continue to face, ongoing issues including anti-Asian exclusion, discrimination, hate crimes, erasure and overlooked contributions.
I'm heartened by our team's record of working against these issues and addressing the needs of AAPI communities which includes supporting passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act and South Asian Heart Health Awareness and Research Act.
It’s people like Lauren, you and me that must continue to advocate for AAPIs to ensure we are heard, considered and included in Congress and in their communities.
John, will you show your ongoing support for the AAPI community this AAPI Heritage Month with a contribution today? As it turns out, we’re $2,387 short of where we should be at this midway point of Q2. Your support means a lot to me, Lauren and the campaign!
