Everyday, more than 2.2 million domestic workers do the work of caring for our families and our homes.
So John, we wanted to share a little more about who these incredible women are and the work we do to support them.
Domestic workers are nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers who do the essential work of caring for our loved ones and our homes. Working in someone else’s home is a key reason this work is unique.
Nearly 16 years ago, driven by the lack of national attention by politicians, the press, and the public, a group of local organizations came together to start our organization – the National Domestic Workers Alliance – with the idea that local organizing could be strengthened in building collective power, nationally.
Today, the National Domestic Workers Alliance is the hub for 70+ grassroots affiliate organizations and chapters across the country and a growing online community of 300,000+ workers.
Driven by the lived experiences and aspirations of domestic workers, we have five main strategies to transform the domestic work sector.
Our website is chock full of information, resources, and ways to take action to support domestic workers. If this email has got you curious, then check it out to learn more. We hope it inspires you to get more involved!
Thanks for all you do,
The National Domestic Workers Alliance Team
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
