Medical debt, which impacts nearly 1 in 3 people, is the leading cause of bankruptcy for middle- and working-class Americans.
Friend,
Our current healthcare system is broken:
$275 for a vial on insulin.
$8,000 for an MRI.
$20,000 for an ER visit.
These grim examples illustrate the stark reality of medical debt for millions of Americans, even those who have health insurance.
The United States is the richest country in the world; no one here should go broke because they fall sick. Yet medical debt, which impacts nearly 1 in 3 people, is the leading cause of bankruptcy for middle- and working-class Americans.
It’s time to wipe the slate clean and cancel all medical debt.
I’m proud to announce that Bernie Sanders and I are getting ready to introduce the Freedom from Medical Debt Initiative, game-changing legislation that would end the burden of astronomical doctor bills. Our initiative will pressure Congress and the White House to protect patients from the horrendous price-gouging and predatory debt-collecting tactics that bankrupt hardworking Americans every day.
Healthcare is a right—it shouldn’t come with a price tag. Freedom from Medical Debt is the first step in establishing Medicare for All. This is a bill that every American deserves.
