John, early last week, I reached out to tell you about my interview on The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart , where I talked about my views on immigrants seeking asylum (If you missed it, I attached it at the bottom of this email).
And late last week, I was back on TV with the Washington Journal to talk about the Republican's most recent anti-immigration bill, HR 2, which would restart border wall construction, add more border personnel and upgrade border technology.
John, this bill was unfortunately passed in the House.
And in light of its passing, in light of another Republican attempt to keep immigrants like my parents, like my husband out of this country, I say this –
If Republicans really wanted to talk about the border, about the economy, about constitutional rights , we could be sitting together and getting to the root cause of migration.
Instead, Republicans are dedicated to inciting fear, hate, and ignorance into the American people.
Just like before, I'm not asking for a donation, I'm just asking for your signature. Will you take 30 seconds to add your name to the list of people standing up against this anti-immigration bill? [[link removed]]

Subject: [VIDEO] Did you catch me on TV 📺 last weekend?

John, last weekend, I had the opportunity to appear on MSNBC's The Saturday/Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart . And Jonathan had this really great question -
"How has your personal experience shaped the way you view immigrants seeking asylum today?"
Thinking of my mother, I only had one answer -

John, my mother wouldn't have crossed 1,811 miles of desert , wouldn't have almost died in the Rio Grande if she had any other option.
My husband, Boris, wouldn't have crossed the border in his freshman year of high school , wouldn't have had to work constantly to help his parents make ends meet if he had any other option.
The refugees Gov. Abbott is sending by the busload to Chicago wouldn't be suffering, would not be hungry, or thirsty, or cold , if they had any other option.
John, a few weeks ago, as a Vice Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, we visited the very same border, and my position has never been more clear:
We need comprehensive and humane immigration reform.
And I'm proud to say some of the work we've been doing has paid off – in the last couple of weeks, I've proposed an amendment that ensures a 100% Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursement for cities like Chicago receiving and supporting migrants with food and shelter.
But beyond the work I'm putting in, pushing the needle on the issue will take strong shows of public support. That's exactly why my team and I created this petition – will you add your name to the list of people standing up for comprehensive immigration reform? [[link removed]]
