ACLU Supporter – tomorrow, a court will hear oral arguments in a case that could ultimately ban medication abortion nationwide. This is an urgent moment in the fight for civil rights, so we need to know you're with us: Sign our petition to tell the courts to protect medication abortion. How we got here: A Trump-appointed judge caused mayhem last month when he attempted to revoke FDA approval of mifepristone – a medication used in over half of all abortions in the United States. The case quickly made its way to the Supreme Court, and the lower court rulings jeopardizing access to medication abortion care are currently paused. But, our work isn't done yet. A look ahead: Tomorrow, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in the case and the case will likely make its way back to the Supreme Court again. We'll be clear: This case should have been thrown out of court from the very start. Mifepristone is a safe, effective medication that was approved by the FDA decades ago and has been used by millions of people across the country to safely end an early pregnancy. Any attempt to ban or restrict the medication is purely a political effort to take away our reproductive freedom in every single state. What you can do: If our opponents think we will allow them to continue to pursue their extreme goals without fierce backlash, they are sorely mistaken. We're doing everything in our power to work toward a world where everyone can make their own reproductive health decisions. That includes rallying 100,000 signatures from the ACLU community to be delivered to the steps of the Supreme Court in the coming weeks. ACLU Supporter – we know we can reach this goal but we haven't gotten there yet. Please, we need you to join this fight today. If you believe in reproductive freedom, please sign our petition before oral arguments begin tomorrow. Tell the Courts: Maintain access to medication abortion.
Thank you for speaking out, The ACLU Team |
