While the American people live under the constant stress of gun violence with mass shootings making the news seemingly every week, House Republicans are choosing once again to ignore the problem.

They bow to the gun lobby, but their constituents have made it clear they want far more than “thoughts and prayers”—they want concrete action.

New stats show that gun deaths among America’s kids rose 50% in the last two years. We must stand up for our families and kids.

In the last legislative session, I’m proud to have helped pass a bipartisan gun safety law that closes critical loopholes—like the one that allowed convicted domestic violence offenders to purchase weapons. I trust responsible gun owners, but these common sense measures are something all of us can get behind. Some of the only ones who haven’t caught on are Congressional Republicans. That needs to change NOW.
