We need clean, renewable energy – like offshore wind – to create jobs, protect our health, and fight climate change.

Here in Maine, offshore wind makes sense. The Gulf of Maine has some of the strongest winds in the world – and it’s warming faster than 99% of the world’s oceans. [1] At the same time, the transition to clean energy needs to center the highest standards for the environment, labor, and equity – and benefit all Mainers, from rural inland to coastal communities.

To get Maine’s offshore wind industry off the ground – and out to sea – Maine people need to rise up in support. One of the most impactful ways to reach your community and show lawmakers just how many Mainers care about responsibly advancing offshore wind is by sharing your story!

That’s why we’re hosting a Maine Conservation Voices storytelling workshop on two key pieces of legislation that will push forward this once-in-a-generation opportunity for Maine to develop a new clean energy industry using technology created right here at the University of Maine. We’ll gather virtually on Thursday, May 25 from 6:00-7:00 PM and share our stories, connecting our experiences to offshore wind and our climate future. Please register here to join us. Francis Eanes, Executive Director of Maine Labor Climate Council, will join us to share an overview of LD 1818, the bill that sets strong labor and environmental standards for port facilities that are necessary for building floating offshore wind turbines at scale and puts Maine in a strong position to actually build the offshore wind ports that we'll need. Kelt Wilska, Energy Justice Manager at Maine Conservation Voters, will provide an overview of LD 1895, the bill to responsibly advance the offshore wind industry in Maine with the highest standards for labor, equity, and the environment.

During the event, we’ll brainstorm our personal connections to offshore wind and clean energy, go over how to write a good LTE, draft our letters, and submit them – all in one hour!
