Welcome to 2020, Sister District DC-VA Volunteers!
We are gearing up for this big year, and with so much going on--impeachment, a presidential election, and everything happening on the national stage, you might be asking, "do states matter right now?" Short answer? YES. More than ever. Why?
- State legislatures often control redistricting, which is a current and crucial issue
- Sister District wants to put their best efforts towards those states with the biggest chance of flipping the Electoral College toward the Democratic presidential nominee, and where there are critical Senate and congressional races
- State legislatures and the laws they pass have a huge, direct impact on people's daily lives
What's the proof?
Virginia.
Flipping this state seemed impossible three years ago, but we did it! In Virginia, Democratic lawmakers aren't just working to prevent the worst of Republican bills, they're creating new ones. They're debating gun control legislation! They're passing the ERA! That's what turning a state blue looks like.
What will Sister District DC-VA Be Up to in 2020?
Several Sister District DC/VA members attended the Sister District Summit here in DC, where we learned a lot and got excited for the year. We'll be hosting an event to talk about our 2020 strategy in March, as well as an event introducing our candidates/state in the spring, so stay tuned for details!
