John, the Democrats we elect in primaries matter.

One year ago today, I lost the Democratic primary to represent NC-04 in Congress.

I had been told I was too young, that I needed to wait my turn, but I knew it was time NC had a progressive fighter in Congress. In the end, our hard work wasn't enough to overcome millions of dollars of outside spending from Super PACs, but we shocked everyone with how close we got thanks to the power of our grassroots movement.

Losing wasn’t easy, but I picked myself up and started Brighter Future PAC to help elect progressive Democrats to office who are facing the same barriers I did.

Now, one year later, the NC legislature is preparing to override Governor Cooper’s veto against their abortion ban– which is only possible because a so-called “Democrat” switched parties to uplift their anti-choice agenda.

This abortion ban will be devastating for millions of North Carolinians. But we can’t give up the fight, John.
