I’ll put my credibility up against anyone else when it comes to guns. I’m a veteran. I’m a hunter. I was one of the best shots in Congress, and I have the trophies to prove it.

But I’m not just a veteran, or a hunter, or a gun owner. First and foremost, I’m a dad. And for many years, I was a teacher. I know that there is no place for weapons of war in our schools, our churches, our banks, or anywhere else people are just trying to live their lives without fear.

This isn’t about the Second Amendment. This is about keeping our kids and our communities safe. I’m not going to let anyone hide behind thoughts and prayers when what we need is action.

Today, our DFL majority in the Minnesota House is going to pass universal background checks and a red flag law to keep guns out of the wrong hands. And when it gets to my desk, I’m going to sign it.
