Tomorrow is Election Day in Pennsylvania, John! And we have the opportunity to do what no one expected — cement and expand our progressive power in Western PA.
FIRST: Mayor Ed Gainey defeated an incumbent and became Pittsburgh's first Black Mayor in 2021. Ed's win proved that the people of Pittsburgh were ready for progressive change that put everyday people first.
THEN: In 2022, we elected Pennsylvania's first Black Congresswoman. Together, we defeated the corporate PACs and dark money interests to advance our fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and workers' rights.
NOW: Allegheny County will elect its first new Executive in 12 years, and my friend, Sara Innamorato, is running to become our first woman Executive. This is our opportunity to elect a leader who will prioritize our vision for environmental, racial, and economic justice.
John, no one expects Western Pennsylvania to become a stronghold of progressive power. But I do. Because I know that when you grow up in a neighborhood with some of the worst air quality in the nation or have to work multiple jobs to get by, policies like the Green New Deal and PRO Act aren't progressive fantasies — it's the bare minimum our communities need.
If elected, Sara, Ed, and I will work together to take on corporate monopolies like UPMC, fight for clean air and water, support our workers, and build a region where everyone can thrive.
But at this moment, Sara is facing an onslaught of attack ads. Republicans and fracking interests have spent over $200,000 in just one week on negative, sexist TV ads. It's the same playbook they used against me, so I know firsthand that the best way to respond is through the power of grassroots donations.
Thank you,
Summer
P.S. If you're a Pennsylvania voter, make a plan to vote tomorrow! Polls will be open from 7AM to 8PM, and you can find your polling location here.
