Last week, the Biden administration lifted Title 42, one of the most powerful tools implemented by the Trump administration to quickly expel illegal aliens and protect our communities. Now that this measure has been scrapped, thousands of illegal aliens, many utilizing fake asylum claims, are being released within America each and every day.
The Biden Border Crisis is devastating communities across the country. More than five million illegal aliens have crossed the border, and Border Patrol has seized more than 14,000 pounds of fentanyl, enough to kill more than 3 billion people. In 2021, fentanyl killed more than 900 Coloradans.
On the same day that Joe Biden actively made his border crisis worse by ending the enforcement of Title 42, House Republicans passed H.R. 2, a comprehensive border security bill that I cosponsored to provide real border security and end this invasion. The Secure the Border Act resumes construction on the wall, increases the number of Border Patrol agents, deploys effective border enforcement technology, and ends the Biden administration’s catch and release policy. I was proud to cosponsor and vote in favor of the strongest border security bill ever passed by Congress.

House Republicans also passed a plan to avoid fiscal catastrophe by raising the debt ceiling, cutting wasteful federal spending, and getting America back on track. Joe Biden then said he wouldn’t negotiate. Instead of coming to the table and negotiating, Biden lied and smeared his political opponents.
Let’s set the record straight. Even the liberal Washington Post gave Biden’s lie that our plan cuts funding for veterans four Pinocchios stating, “there’s nothing in the bill that specifically cuts veterans’ benefits.”
The truth is H.R. 2811 maintains a strong national defense, supports our veterans, and protects Medicare and Social Security. It rescinds $29.5 billion in unobligated COVID funds, defunds the Democrats’ plan to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to spy on your bank account, saves $460 billion by blocking Biden’s illegal student loan bailout, and prevents spending approximately $570 billion on Green New Deal tax credits.
Biden’s campaign as a bipartisan dealmaker was a total sham. His failure to come to the negotiating table is a national disgrace, and only 29% of Americans agree with Biden’s decision not to negotiate with Congress on the debt ceiling. If you want to see real bipartisanship that doesn’t compromise on our values, look at my voting record. I’ve passed 2 bills through the House with bipartisan support, and eight of my nine amendments that passed the House had bipartisan support. For effective legislating, look to the House Republicans, not radical Joe Biden.

I introduced the Clifton Opportunities Now for Vibrant Economic Yields (CONVEY) Act to direct the Bureau of Land Management to sell a parcel of land to Mesa County to be used for economic development. Mesa County has been waiting more than five years for the Bureau of Land Management to sell it a parcel of land that the federal government no longer needs or wants. I worked with Mesa County in introducing the CONVEY Act to cut through the bureaucracy and expedite the process. This land will be used for critical economic development in Clifton that will bring more job creators into Mesa County.

I visited the future site of a new reservoir being built by the Conejos Water Conservancy District.
In Congress, I am working to secure critical funding for water storage and delivery projects that will store water during dry times and combat western drought.

It was great hosting members of Colorado’s National Association of Realtors (NAR) here in our nation’s capital! We discussed key issues facing the Colorado housing market, and we discussed my work to fight inflation, lower interest rates, and ensure that the dream of homeownership is available for every Coloradan.

Water is one of the most important issues facing the San Luis Valley, and I was grateful to visit the Closed Basin Project. This important project provides nearly 20,000 acre-feet of water annually, primarily for the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge and irrigation in the San Luis Valley. I have been working hard on water issues impacting the San Luis Valley, which is why I led an effort to protect its water rights, fought for key funding for 566 water storage and delivery projects throughout the San Luis Valley, and worked to get a weather radar online to enhance the accuracy of precipitation forecasting.

It was wonderful meeting with the Alamosa Mayor, City Manager, Economic Development Director, Director of Parks and Recreation, and other city officials. We discussed different opportunities for us to work together to improve the local community. I look forward to continued dialogue.

I talked with the San Isabel Electric Association about its concern about the fast-paced transition to unreliable energy. There is no plan to build the necessary infrastructure, like transmission lines and transformers, to connect unreliable energy to the power grid. In Biden’s economy, the supply chain for transformers is horrible, and it takes over a year to get a transformer delivered.
We talked about my work to support reliable energy, including my two bills that passed the House as part of H.R. 1: the American Energy Act and the 90-Day Review Act. Both of my bills will reduce energy prices, streamline the process for building energy infrastructure, and help make America energy independent again.
|
I loved seeing the San Isabel Electric Association’s work first-hand, and I was impressed by its strong employee morale—everyone there is excited to be there and loves what they are doing in providing this service.

It was great visiting the Pueblo Nature & Wildlife Discovery Center. It was founded by two veterans’ groups to showcase Colorado’s amazing natural beauty to the public at no cost. I am working hard to support local treasures and put the interests of local communities first.

Tara Burke from Walsenburg, CO, reached out to my office since the VA had been ignoring her for seven months. Her husband, Master Sergeant Robert Burke, passed away unexpectedly in September. After his death, Tara reached out to the VA to get his military records so that she could submit the paperwork necessary for her life insurance claim. After seven months, the bills started to pile up, and the VA still had not gotten back to her.
Finally, she reached out to my office for assistance. We immediately went to bat for her, and within a week of my office taking her case, the VA finally got her the records she needed.
Master Sergeant Burke served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Marine Corps, and his family deserved better. That is why I have a team of caseworkers across the District who are standing ready to assist veterans and their families who aren’t getting answers from the VA.
