Statement from Representative Adriano Espaillat on the Passing of New York City Councilman Bill Perkins

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement on the passing of former New York City Councilman Bill Perkins:

“New York City Councilman Bill Perkins was a friend and fellow public servant who touched the lives of many who called New York City home,” said Rep. Espaillat. “I am deeply touched by today's news of his passing and his loss will be felt by all. In his work, Councilman Perkins made a difference in his leadership, utilizing his voice to bring about change and to improve the lives of others. He came to the defense of the Exonerated Five and took on Donald Trump in the face of injustice.

“Councilman Perkins showed courage during difficult times and was a fearless advocate for the vulnerable. He treated all with the respect, equity, and justice that they deserved, and he demanded change when and where it was needed the most. He and I served together in the New York State Senate, and during a critical time when I needed him the most, he was there, and his support remained unwavering throughout the years.

"I extend my condolences to his wife, Pamela, and the entire Perkins family during this time of bereavement. May his legacy continue to inspire each of us and may the memories we have of our dear friend never be forgotten.”

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fourth term in Congress. WASHINGTON, DC – Hoy, el congresista Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) emitió la siguiente declaración sobre el fallecimiento del exconcejal de la ciudad de Nueva York Bill Perkins:

“El concejal de la ciudad de Nueva York Bill Perkins fue un amigo y colega servidor público que tocó la vida de muchos que llamaban hogar a la ciudad de Nueva York”, dijo el Rep. Espaillat. “Estoy profundamente conmovido por la noticia de hoy de su fallecimiento y su pérdida será sentida por todos. En su trabajo, el concejal Perkins marcó la diferencia en su liderazgo, utilizando su voz para generar cambios y mejorar las vidas de los demás. Salió en defensa de los Cinco Exonerados y se enfrentó a Donald Trump frente a la injusticia.
