I’m going to be honest. This has been a hard week. The State of the Union. The President’s acquittal in the Senate. It can really feel like our democracy is struggling under the weight of all of the incompetence, bigotry, and hatred.

When I’m feeling overwhelmed by the world, it’s important for me to reground myself in our people.

Last night, we held our first ever TakeAction text bank for Bernie Sanders, and it was exactly what I needed. I was talking to one voter in particular about my family and Medicare for All and universal family care. I need it. My family needs it. We all need it. But these things are impossible without a movement of people rising up alongside our next president.

And just for a moment, the person I was talking to listened to me. They acknowledged my story and they acknowledged me. And that empathy and willingness to fight is what we need right now.
