The government ended the COVID-19 public health emergency on May 11. Was that the right decision? We want to hear from your students, so encourage them to join the latest debate on Think the Vote! Students and teacher prizes will be awarded to those who make the strongest case for each side of the issue. In June, we will select a $1,000 grand prize student winner from all the winning entries this year!

Don’t forget to take advantage of BRI’s newest curriculum, Slavery and the Founding. This resource offers lessons exploring the role of slavery in the founding of the United States. It uses primary source analysis, discussion prompts, and student reflections to consider the paradox of how slavery became entrenched in a country founded upon liberty and equality.

Students who use Slavery and the Founding will discuss topics like the resistance to slavery during the colonial era, the natural rights theory and how it influenced the foundation of the Declaration of Independence, how the country’s Founding principles relate to challenging slavery, the participation of Black Americans in the Revolutionary War and their natural rights, and much more.

Meet Kymberli Wregglesworth!

During her undergraduate studies, Kymberli Wregglesworth was chosen for a Global Service Fellowship and taught English in southern India for a year. It was there that she found her calling.

Before you embark on your summer break, don’t forget about our MyImpact Challenge! The deadline for students to apply and submit their ideas for constitutionally-principled civic engagement projects is 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 21.

Also, the Bill of Rights Institute is hosting a webinar to commemorate the launch of our latest curriculum, Slavery and the Founding, on Thursday, June 15. This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the curriculum and how you can apply it to your classroom instruction. Stay tuned for more details!
