Dear Friend,
Happy International Day of Families, dedicated to raising awareness about family-related issues and enhancing understanding of the social, economic, and demographic factors that impact them. At Progressive Maryland, we believe that families are the backbone of our communities, and we are committed to supporting them through grassroots organizing. They deserve our unwavering support and advocacy. That's why we encourage you to check out our latest blog post on our website, where we delve into the significance of the International Day of Families specifically in Maryland and its connection to Black and Brown families as well as actions you can take to support them.

Healthcare Justice Campaign: This is A Big Week For Healthcare Organizing!
One of the biggest obstacles many of us face when it comes to getting health care is the greed and power of the health insurance industry. That’s why we’ve joined People’s Action’s Care Over Cost campaign to fight back and demand a better system for healthcare in this country; one that will guarantee that everyone can get the care they need when they need it no matter their age, where they live, their job or immigration status, gender identity, or financial situation. Take a minute to sign our petition. Add your voice to demand a crack down on health insurers who are jacking up premiums, setting high co-pays and denying our care.
If we move to a Medicare For All universal system we can set up a structure that’s actually geared to the needs of patients and to the work of medical professionals and caregivers, not the bank accounts of insurance companies. The good news is that this Wednesday, May 17th, Senator Sanders (I-VT) and Representatives Jayapal (D-WA) and Dingell (D-MI) will reintroduce the Medicare For All Act in their respective chambers. Progressive Maryland will attend the 2:00 p.m. press conference with these lawmakers to thank them and show our support! We’re excited that Progressive Maryland’s Healthcare Task Force leader Mike Walsh will be speaking at the event and telling his story. You can watch the press conference here. You can livestream the national Town Hall for Medicare For All, taking place the night before (Tuesday evening at 7:30) on People’s Action Facebook page.
Help us power the Care Over Cost fight campaign and our campaign to end medical debt. Share your story here. Join us in the community – we’re knocking on doors, tabling, and speaking to a variety of groups about the problem and asking them to sign down with us. It’s fun and rewarding to engage with folks! We’ll provide support and training to our volunteers. To sign up, just contact Patty

State and National News:
While the GOP US House Caucus plays daily chicken on the looming debt ceiling deadline, families here in Maryland have the same old questions: where does our next meal come from? How can we avoid losing our health care coverage when the COVID emergency "ends?" When is school going to get better -- permanently, not just by accident? Check out what's being done to remedy these issues here and elsewhere around the 50 states, and be reminded about the irrelevant game-playing going on down in the National Capitol. It's enough to get you mad. It's enough to get you mad enough to organize and fight. For that, join Progressive Maryland.
It’s News You Can Use for this fast-moving time. Don’t miss it |
