Today is Nakba day, when Palestinians commemorate the destruction of nearly 500 towns and villages and the ethnic cleansing of more than 800,000 people by Jewish gangs. While the Nakba began 75 years ago, it continues today through any number of Israeli policies: settlements, denying the right of Palestinian return, land seizures, administrative detention, home demolitions, bombing campaigns, destruction of farmland and olive trees, separating the Palestinian people from one another, etc. Despite the well-documented history of the Nakba, it is largely ignored—and even dismissed as a hoax—by many in Israel and the U.S.

In our latest issue, Ida Audeh offers an authoritative and extensive account of 75 years of the Nakba. Despite its best efforts, Israel has failed to defeat the Palestinian people, she colncludes:

"Israel at 75 remains what it always was, a European settler colonial outpost in the Arab world that has tried, through its military, its surveillance technology, its cruel system of control, and its prisons, to beat a proud people into submission. But today it is Palestinians who are writing the legends that resonate around the world."
