đź“ť NOTE FROM THE CHAIR đź“ť
After the past week’s storms and dark clouds, it looks like we might (finally!) be in for some sunshine later this week.
But every Iowan knows that the weather here flip-flops faster than GOP presidential candidates trying to outdo each other on who has the most extreme plan to ban abortion, cut Medicare and Social Security, give away tax breaks to corporations, and take away rights from our LGBTQ friends and neighbors.
No matter who ends up being the GOP nominee, it's clear MAGA Republicans support the most extreme candidates in our history. I'm ready to protect our freedoms, strengthen our democracy and finish the job with President Joe Biden.
We conducted our Climate Change Constituency Caucus officer elections last Thursday, and I’m excited to see what my former Iowa Senate colleague Rob Hogg achieves as their new Chair.
I headed out to Adel last week for the Dallas County Democrats’ fundraiser. Thanks to Chair Tom Walton for bringing together an excellent group of Iowa Democrats and putting on a great event!
I attended Kate Wishman’s celebration of life on Friday at LiUNA Local 177, and though it was a sad occasion, it was a beautiful service filled with a great outpouring of Democratic support. People showed up because Kate and her family stood up for others and fought for working people. We support each other in times of need because we have these underlying values in common. My deepest condolences to Kate’s husband Charlie, their children, and their many loved ones as they navigate this loss.
Yours,
Rita Hart

Iowa Democratic Party: Republicans have been against Medicare and Social Security from the start. That’s why they won’t work with Democrats to protect and strengthen these vital programs. [[link removed]]
Iowa House Democrats: Iowans expect legislators to work together to find solutions that benefit all Iowans. House Democratic Leader Rep. Jennifer Konfrst gave her end-of-session speech. She reflected on the divisive agenda pushed by GOP leaders and highlighted the places where we could and did find common ground. [[link removed]]
Iowa Senate Democrats: State Senator Herman Quirmbach responds to proposed tuition increases at the UI, ISU, and UNI: “The tuition hikes considered today are just the latest result of Statehouse Republicans’ failure to support Iowans and build a stronger future for our state. These increases will make it harder for Iowans to go to college and will push many students further into debt." [[link removed]]
