TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY to weigh in on the Biden administration’s unlawful rewrite of Title IX and its application to sports. The proposed rule to Title IX, which was originally intended to prohibit discrimination “on the basis of sex” in any aspect of education including in sports, is a huge slap in the face to women in America.Â
Not only would this undermine women’s sports by requiring schools to allow biological men who identify as women to compete on women’s teams, as my colleague Jennifer C. Braceras has said, “rather than placing the burden of proof where it belongs — on the trans-athlete seeking accommodation — [Biden’s rules] shifts the burden of proof to women to prove that the participation of males in women’s sports harms them.”
This means that male athletes like Lia Thomas will be able to continue to compete against and steal opportunities from women who have worked years to master their respective crafts.Â
Men have distinct biological differences that cannot be erased no matter how much cross-sex hormones they put into their bodies. This gives them an edge over women in athletic competition, as well as increases a woman’s risk for injury.Â
IW Spokeswoman and highschooler Payton McNabb has testified about her traumatic experience at a women's volleyball game. She played against a male athlete who spiked the volleyball with such force directly to her head that it knocked her unconscious, exhibiting a fencing response, and left suffering physical and mental trauma.Â
If we do not use our voice when it matters most, we are faced with a future where girls and women’s ability to compete is severely compromised under the guise of “inclusion” and “fairness.” There is nothing just or fair about the Biden administration’s proposed Title IX rules for sports.
