Dear John,
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new limits on the climate pollution from fossil gas and coal-fired power plants. This is one of the most critical pieces of the Biden administration’s efforts to cut climate pollution in half by 2030.
But the big polluters and their political allies have already announced their fierce opposition. That’s why EDF and its network of advocates will be front and center to rally public support for this proposal. Together we will continue to push for strong emission limits that cut carbon pollution and accelerate our transition to clean, affordable and reliable energy that is safe for people and the planet.
As we gear up for this fight, your support makes climate progress possible. Please donate today to help us build a safe climate future.
EPA’s action is designed for legal durability – it addresses the Supreme Court’s ruling from last summer and is reinforced by the climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. This would be the first time the U.S. government has regulated carbon dioxide pollution from existing fossil fuel power plants on a national level.
EPA proposes to set performance-based emission limits that individual power plants would have to meet. They can do that by using different technologies, or different fuel sources, or by capturing and sequestering emissions.
Required reductions could also be achieved through clean energy and storage, buoyed by lower costs and historic investments under the Inflation Reduction Act. Importantly, the EPA’s proposal includes the first national limits on carbon dioxide from new gas plants, a growing source of climate pollution.
But if our long history of defending climate progress has taught us anything, it’s that this is only the first step. That’s why we’re counting on your support for EPA to adopt the strongest possible pollution limits and to help us defend these protections in the courts and on Capitol Hill.
Please donate today to support our work. Every dollar you give helps us continue to push for cleaner air, a safer climate and a healthier environment for everyone.
Thanks for your support,
Wes Rogerson
