Dear John,

We invite you to join the National Association of Scholars this Friday at 3 pm ET for a discussion on the AI arms race and ChatGPT. We also invite you to join us next Tuesday, May 23, at 2 pm ET for a discussion on the increasingly tense racial situation in higher education.

More on our upcoming webinars and additional events:

Join the National Association of Scholars on Friday, May 19, at 3 pm ET for "Restoring the Sciences: AI and ChatGPT. Should We Be Worried?"

Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) and large language models like ChatGPT change the world as we know it? Whose jobs will adjust and whose will be replaced? Will this AI arms race create a benign helper or forward the end of humanity? If not the end, what will be the challenges as this long-developing technology gains versatility, power, and reach? There’s a lot of debate going on out there, and our guests on this episode of Restoring the Sciences will help us sort through the issue.

In their new book, Why Machines Will Never Rule the World: Artificial Intelligence Without Fear (Routledge, 2022), Landgrebe and Smith argue that AI poses no threat to humanity, stating that AI is entirely different from the General Intelligence of humans. Whereas Petersen argues in the New York Post that “we need to pause AI research and consider the real dangers.”

This event will feature Jobst Landgrebe, a tech entrepreneur, scientist and mathematician; Barry Smith, a philosopher and author; and Steve Petersen, a philosophy professor at Niagara University.

Join the National Association of Scholars on Tuesday, May 23, at 2 pm ET for "Race in Higher Education: Prospects for the Future."

The Supreme Court’s upcoming decision in the UNC and Harvard cases has the potential to completely upend the existing system of racial preferences in college admissions. But regardless of the decision, the damage done to American higher education by racial preferences will not be reversed overnight. Given the current tense climate around race at colleges and universities, what does the future look like? Is there any hope for reconciliation, or are students destined to be exposed to a toxic and increasingly racially segregated university?

This event will feature Renu Mukherjee, a Paulson Policy Analyst at the Manhattan Institute who's work addresses a range of topics on affirmative action and race in higher education; and Ilya Shapiro, a Constitutional Law and Supreme Court expert.
