Friend,
Yesterday, I voted to remove the President of the United States from office. And I want you to know why.
While I disagree with the President on a lot of issues, I believe impeachment should be the last resort. But when I read the whistleblower report alleging nothing less than the President's corrupt abuse of power, we had no choice but to begin an impeachment inquiry. And when the House sent two articles of impeachment to the Senate, I took an oath to "do impartial justice according to the Constitution and the law."
This trial was not just about what President Trump did for personal political gain. It was about whether we, as your elected leaders, had the courage to stand up for what's right and hold the President of the United States accountable.
But a trial without witnesses and evidence is not a real trial. And an acquittal in such a trial is not a real acquittal either.
Some have said we should let the people decide in the next election. But when the President solicits foreign nations to influence our elections with disinformation and prevents the public from hearing a full and fair account of that effort, we cannot sit on our hands and do nothing. Our duty is to support and defend the Constitution, and this moment called on us to take immediate action.
There is nothing inevitable about democracy, it is something we have to fight for. And now, the fight for democracy and our Constitution has chosen us.
We have a lot of work to do between now and November. Democracy is hard work. But I know folks like you are up to the task. That's why I'm turning to you now.

This November, we can put our values — and our anger about this vote — on the record. Together, if enough of us take this sadness and frustration, and channel it into action, we can show that every Republican who voted to protect President Trump will be held accountable.
This process let me down. I'm sure it let you down, too. But we must continue to fight for our values and hold our elected leaders accountable.
Thank you,
Tina
