Friend,
I write to you today not only as a member of Congress but as a concerned citizen as we see a budget rolled out that cuts support for our nation's military veterans.
A recent Republican budget was released that slashed spending on the Department of Veterans Affairs by 22%. While 22% is just a number it means so much more to our veterans. According to a White House report, 22% cut in funding could result in over 30 million fewer doctor visits for our veterans - necessary care for treating physical and mental health challenges they often face after their service.
Frankly, this is unacceptable. We make a promise when we enlist troops that we will have their backs, both while they’re on duty, and after they complete their service. A dramatic cut could mean not holding up our end of the deal for those who bravely sacrifice so much for our country.
Can I count on you to support my re-election so I can continue working toward common sense solutions that will help us hold up our end of the deal we made with our veterans?

We can and we must make sure our veterans receive the best care possible. It’s a moral imperative.
Best,
Dean
