Friends,
27 years ago, the United States passed the federal Family Medical Leave Act. This bill provided job protections for Americans who needed to take time off to care for themselves or loved ones.
I helped write the first FMLA in the country back in 1986, delivering economic justice to thousands of working families here in Maine.
These policies provided safety and job security for working people. But, this was just the first step, not the final destination. In three decades since, nothing has changed, and families are suffering for it. That’s why as Senator, I would author paid family leave.
Sign here if you agree: it’s time for paid leave for all.
The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world with no national paid family leave policy.
25 percent of mothers in the U.S. return to work just 10 days after giving birth. 17 percent of Americans spend more than twenty hours caring for sick relatives.
In the richest country in the world, It is unconscionable that families in this country are still buried in debt and losing their jobs just to care for their loved ones.
Sign our petition to show your support for paid leave for all.
Our nation’s public policies are failing to meet the needs of workers and their families. When I’m Senator, we’re going to take FMLA a step further; we are going to pass Paid Leave for All.
We are in a battle between what is right, and what is easy. This battle can’t be won by politicians dependent on corporate cash and special interests.
Passing paid leave for all is a job for a movement – a people-powered grassroots campaign ready to do the work, stand up to the naysayers, and fight to win.
In Solidarity,
