ICYMI: House Passes Bill to Protect Taxpayers & Victims of Unemployment Fraud My friend, In case you missed it, the House passed bipartisan legislation to protect taxpayers after my House Ways & Means Committee highlighted the egregious lack of oversight and investigation into the waste, fraud, and abuse of tax dollars in federal unemployment programs during the pandemic. Sadly, but unsurprisingly, New York State ranks near the top of the list with an estimated $11 billion in fraudulent unemployment payments with many going to overseas fraudsters and even dead people. This is unacceptable and our legislation will protect taxpayers and make it easier for federal authorities and states to recoup these funds.
