TOM WINTER FOR CONGRESS

This month we celebrate black history.

Dear John,

February is a month we take to recognize the accomplishments and impact of black Americans on our country.

The United States has a complicated and painful relationship with race that bleeds into modern day. From the birth of slavery through today’s institutionalized racism we still have a long way to go when it comes to achieving true equality.

Ella Baker, civil rights activist

But February is an opportunity to talk not about the pain of racism but the triumph and incredible resilience of black Americans in the face of oppression.

But one email or social media post recognizing the accomplishments of black America is not enough. Good elected officials fight for everyone — not just those who look like them.

In Congress I will fight for our public schools, a healthcare system, and a strong economy that works for everyone.

With gratitude,

Representative Tom Winter
