AEE Reacts to Indiana House Vote for Coal Bill ([link removed] )

indianapolis-1888215_1920 ([link removed] )

AEE reacted to Indiana’s House passage of HB1414, a bill that would require Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) approval before a utility can close a coal plant and offer more money for keeping a 90-day supply of coal onsite. The vote was 52-41. As coal plants are expected to close as they become uncompetitive with more cost-effective advanced energy resources, including wind, solar, storage, and demand-side resources, coal companies are pressuring the legislature to pass a bill that would make it harder for utilities to transition to cleaner energy resources. "HB 1414 is a bad deal for Indiana businesses and consumers. It interferes with free market competition and it will cost Hoosiers more for electricity," said Caryl Auslander, policy director at Advanced Energy Economy. Virginia Clean Economy Act Advances from Key Subcommittee ([link removed] )

VA Clean Economy - AEE Blog-2x ([link removed] ) Following an important subcommittee hearing, environmental and clean energy groups joined in praising members of the House of Delegates for taking bold and meaningful action to address climate change and transform Virginia’s energy economy. On February 4th, Delegate Rip Sullivan’s Subcommittee of the House Labor & Commerce Committee met and voted to advance HB 1526, the Virginia Clean Economy ACT (VCEA). Introduced in December with the backing of a broad coalition of groups from around Virginia, the VCEA, of which Del. Sullivan is a chief co-patron, would address climate change in the Commonwealth by requiring that 100% of our power come from clean sources and eliminating utility pollution by 2050. The VCEA would accomplish this making major investments in energy efficiency and ensuring that the transition to a 100% clean energy economy doesn’t hurt ratepayers. Will Clean Energy Commitments Lead to a Regional Market in the West? ([link removed] )

Western Blog Final 2 ([link removed] )

As momentum builds for clean energy, the Western states are leading by example. From California to Colorado, Washington to New Mexico, states have set ambitious goals, and are now starting to figure out how to meet them. Suddenly, the notion of a regional power grid, instead of the electric power system managed state by state, has growing appeal in the independent-minded West. Could regionalizing the grid help these states reach their goals? And if so, what would a regional power market look like? AEE has put forward some principles to contribute to the conversation. At DC Auto Show, Automakers Tout Latest Electric Models, Range, and Apps Ahead of Super Bowl Ad Blitz ([link removed] )

In late January, AEE hosted its second annual EV press tour at the 2020 Washington Auto Show in Washington, D.C. We didn’t realize it would be a Super Bowl preview of sorts, given big ad buys touting hot new EV models from Audi, General Motors, and Porsche. But the Auto Show presented the perfect opportunity to update the media on U.S. and global trends driving market growth, identify associated policy issues, speak directly with auto manufacturers about their plans and strategies, and see the latest EV models firsthand. Joining us were reporters from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Examiner, Politico, Houston Chronicle, Electrek, Cheddar, E&E News, S&P Global, and Smart Cities Dive. Valuing Distributed Energy Resources in ERCOT ([link removed] )

Recorded on Monday, January 27th 2020

Screen Shot 2020-01-27 at 4.21.12 PM ([link removed] )

Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance (TAEBA) recently released a new report that shows electricity customers across the

state could save $5.47 billion by using distributed energy resources (DERs) like solar energy, energy storage, efficiency, and electric vehicles to reduce the need for more costly peak power generation and transmission and distribution investments. The report quantifies the value of integrating DERs into transmission and distribution planning and allowing them to participate in existing wholesale markets. View the recording to learn more about the report’s key findings.

Panelists:

- Josh Bode, Partner & Principal, Demand Side Analytics
- Suzanne Bertin, Managing Director, TAEBA
