UPDATE ON THE BON AIR APARTMENTS

Last week, I renewed my calls for immediate action regarding the living conditions at the Bon Air Apartments in Augusta. It is past time for all partners responsible for providing safe and affordable housing at this location to address these critical issues. Our residents and community deserve better.

Telephone Town Hall

Earlier this week, I hosted a Telephone Town Hall to answer questions from residents across Georgia's 12th District. More than 13,000 constituents joined Tuesday's call where I provided updates on the southern border crisis, unleashing American energy, and legislation I've introduced to modernize our nation's labor laws and reaffirm the United States' commitment to Israel.

This Week's Committee Activity

Education and the Workforce

Full Committee Markup

On Wednesday, the House Education and Workforce Committee held a full committee markup to consider H.J. Res. 45, a Congressional Review Act resolution to nullify President Biden's unlawful student loan debt transfer scheme. Congress can utilize the Congressional Review Act to roll back rules and regulations issued by the executive branch agencies.

If you take out a loan, you are responsible for paying it back. President Biden's plan would unfairly force American taxpayers to subsidize college tuition for borrowers who made a financial commitment. I voted to advance this resolution of disapproval out of committee and look forward to its full consideration on the House floor.

Energy and Commerce

Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing and Critical Materials Hearing

Also on Wednesday, I participated in a subcommittee hearing where I pressed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan on the overreaching regulations coming from the EPA.

“Closing The Digital Divide: Overseeing Federal Funds For Broadband Deployment”

The House Energy and Commerce Committee held a subcommittee hearing on closing the digital divide and ensuring federal broadband dollars are truly going to the unserved communities that need them most.

IN THE DISTRICT

Last week in the district, I was honored to attend and speak at the National Day of Prayer Breakfast in Augusta hosted by Mayor Garnett Johnson and Miracle Making Ministries. As the Chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, I am in a unique position to hear the spiritual concerns of the American people and I encourage you to submit a prayer request by visiting my website. 

I also attended the Effingham County National Day of Prayer Service where I read the call for fasting and prayer issued by the Continental Congress on March 16, 1776.

CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

I look forward to the Congressional Art Competition every year as the gifted young artists who call Georgia-12 home put their artistic talents on full display. Last week, I hosted a reception at the Westobou Gallery in Augusta to announce this year's winners. Their art will be on display at the Gallery for the entire month of May.
