Voting to secure our southern border

Image

This week, I joined House Republicans in voting for the Secure the Border Act. The Biden Administration and DHS Secretary Mayorkas have failed to address the crisis at our border and their open border policies threaten our national security. The bill we passed this week will stop the flow of illicit fentanyl, end catch and release, increase border security resources, and slow illegal immigration across the southern border. The Senate must act on this bill as Title 42 expires.

Combating unemployment insurance fraud

As Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Work and Welfare, I joined my colleagues this week in supporting the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act. Every dollar going to fraud is a dollar that did not go to those who needed it. In Illinois, nearly $2 billion in federal funds was paid out for fraudulent unemployment claims, almost half of the money paid out by the state. This important piece of legislation goes after criminals and incentivizes states to claw back illegally obtained funds by fraudsters. House Republicans are delivering on our commitment to a government that is accountable, and I was proud to help lead this legislation through the Ways and Means Committee.

Bipartisan legislation introduced to support affordable housing

Affordable housing is vital for families throughout Illinois and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit continues to be an important tool to drive investment in the affordable rental housing market. As I travel throughout communities in the 16th District of Illinois, I constantly hear about the affordable housing crisis, especially in our rural areas. This bipartisan bill will modernize the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and help expand our housing supply, strengthening communities and supporting economic development in Illinois and across the county.
