In 2020 I said that American moms are running on empty. Every morning, we wake up feeling guilty that we’re not doing enough. Every night, we go to sleep terrified that we’re failing our children.

That was during the COVID lockdown, when I was trying to be a mom, a Senator and an elementary school teacher simultaneously to make sure my children were not falling behind.

Over the last 3 decades, the cost of childcare has risen by 220%. People are spending as much as half of their income on childcare and there’s just no way for working families to survive under those circumstances.

Recently, I cosponsored a proposal that would cap the cost of childcare at $10 per day for the average family and subsidize childcare for working families across the country.

These are solutions we need to be working on right now to support all of the hardworking parents out there struggling to make ends meet. I’m hopeful that there are more solutions we can come up with like this that will make a huge impact on the quality of life for these moms and their families.

And today, on Mother’s Day, I want to say to all of the moms: hang in there sister, we are in this together. Nobody has a perfect work life balance, and everyone struggles, but we have to do our best because we are what keeps this country strong.

Thank you to all of the moms out there and I hope you have a wonderful day with your families.

Tammy
