ACLU

ACLU Supporter –

There's an important update in our family separation lawsuit that I want to make sure you saw: We just discovered that over 900 parents and children have been separated at the border since the court blocked family separations over a year ago in our lawsuit, Ms. L v. ICE.

The Trump administration is trying to justify these separations by claiming they occur only when the child is in danger. But that's not true. Documents show that the government separated many families for incorrect or shockingly minor offenses on the part of the parent, like shoplifting or traffic violations.

As if there was ever any doubt – family separation is not about child welfare. It wasn't last year and it isn't now.

By manufacturing reasons to separate families, the government is trying to circumvent the law – with little regard for the clear, court-ordered injunction issued last summer. That's why we can't back down as the administration continues to target immigrants, all while hoping to remain under the radar.

ACLU Supporter, as a dedicated supporter of civil rights and liberties, you know that families belong together. You've been a crucial part of our fight from day one – calling Congress, protesting in the streets, and staying informed about the administration's latest attacks. Your support has been vital as we continue to argue our case against family separation, and take down the cruel policy once and for all.

Thanks for staying in the fight,
