Dear Georgian,

Wishing all our Eighth District mothers – including my mom and my wife Vivien – a very happy Mother’s Day!

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. As a parent, I am grateful for the hard work, kindness, and patience that teachers show our children. Please join me in showing appreciation to the amazing educators in our community.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Fighting Illegal Immigration

On Thursday, I voted in favor of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 219-213.

Supporting Law Enforcement

Last week was also National Police Week, and I thank all members of law enforcement for protecting Georgia's Eighth Congressional district! I cosponsored a resolution to recognize law enforcement agencies and officers for their tireless work to protect us and make our communities safer.

This legislation also condemns calls to defund, disband, dismantle, or abolish the police who protect us each day.

Just the News | Republicans warn of national security threats from China as Title 42 ends

"The Biden administration last week approved the temporary deployment of 1,500 active-duty troops to the country's southern border to assist the U.S. Border Patrol before the expiration of Title 42, which has allowed the U.S. to quickly deport asylum-seekers to contain the spread of COVID.

Title 42 is to be lifted today.

Georgia GOP Rep. Austin Scott said that the Biden administration has created this border crisis, which is going to result in a major national security crisis.

'A lot of these people are not from Central and South America,' Scott told the Just the News, No Noise TV show. 'They're not from Mexico or Guatemala or the places in the Western Hemisphere. They're coming from the Middle East. They're coming from China. They're coming from all over the world.'"
